Hello my darlings, Miss Cookie here. 

I have some very exciting news: my humans at Gran Alacant Properties are now the proud sponsors of the Monte y Mar Bowls and Social Club! That’s right, not only do we help people find homes, we also like to reinvest in the wonderful community we live and work in. And let me tell you, this club has been at the heart of social life in Gran Alacant for more than 20 years.

What’s Monte y Mar All About?

Monte y Mar Bowls and Social Club is more than just bowls. It’s part of a larger complex with a bar/restaurant (where I’ve already spotted the croquetas), a games room, and even a summer swimming pool.

The club may be one of the youngest bowling clubs in Spain, but its facilities are among the very best in the country. The six-rink green is open all year round and built to the highest standards. The club is also affiliated with Levante Lawn Bowls (LLB), competing in inter-club competitions, hosting Open Bowling Events that attract top players from across Spain, and running fun internal competitions throughout the year.

How Do You Play Bowls?

It looks simple: roll a slightly wonky ball (a “bowl”) down a long green and try to get as close as possible to the smaller ball called the “jack.” Easy, right? Ha! It’s trickier than chasing pigeons, believe me.

As for dress code, tradition rules the day: smart whites for matches, casuals for practice, and always a friendly smile. Tail-wags optional.

Membership & Costs

Thinking about joining? Here’s how it works:

• 12 months: €285 + €15 social membership

• 8 months: €180 + €15 social membership

• 6 months (non-resident): €140 + €15 social membership

• Social membership: €15 per year + €5 per session (hire shoes & bowls €1)

The best part? The Club gives three free lessons to new bowlers. That’s very generous — I only offer one free wiggle before expecting snacks.

And now for the big news: this Sunday, 14th of September, is the Gran Alacant Properties Tournament! Everyone is welcome to come and watch. I’ll be wagging from the sidelines while Chris and Laura hand out the prizes.
